Man swallows evidence; Life flighted with overdose symptoms

(Riverton, Wyo.) – A 34-year-old man who was apparently fearful of having police search his vehicle during a traffic stop at 2:48 p.m. in the 700 block of East Monroe, allegedly ingested a “large” amount of something, according to a Riverton Police Report. Captain Eric Murphy said the man immediately began to exhibit symptoms of an overdose and he was rushed to SageWest-Riverton’s emergency room for initial treatment. The man’s condition was so serious, according to the RPD report, that he was flown to another regional hospital for specialized care. The man’s condition is not known this morning. According to the RPD report of the incident, after an officer pulled the man over and talked with him for a short time, the officer indicated that he was going to search the vehicle due to the driver’s suspicious behavior. The officer walked back to his patrol car. When he returned, the man's 14-year-old niece, a passenger in the vehicle, told the officer that her uncle had just swallowed a quantity of something. He immediately began exhibiting symptoms and an ambulance was called. A family member came and picked up the girl. There were no arrests or citations issued during the traffic stop. #county10 #news
