Crowd shows up at Lander Council meeting to hear about recycling

This evening about 50 members of the Lander community attended the Lander City Council meeting to hear the latest on the potential for the Fremont County Solid Waste Disposal District to significantly reduce recycling opportunities. FCSWDD Superintendent Andy Frey reiterated that no official decisions have been made regarding recycling, but explained to the council why the county may eventually stop taking glass, paper and plastic recycling. Read the in-depth look at the recycling situation here. The council asked questions about various costs and solutions were briefly touched upon. Frey said he's heard of no recycling option that pays for itself, so it ultimately comes down to how much the county or the community would be willing to pay for it. He also noted that with the added materials going into the Lander landfill, there wouldn't be enough to force an early closure of the facility; either way, he said the landfill likely would not be full by its mandated closure date. #county10 #news
