Local highway speeds about to go to 70 mph in April

(Cheyenne, Wyo.) - Drivers can expect to see WYDOT crews installing 70 mph speed limit signs around the state in April to bring the roads up to the new statutory speed limit for non-interstate highways in Wyoming. Six of the highways are in Fremont County, two in Hot Springs and Washakie counties. (See the list below) WYDOT expects to have about 1,500 miles of highways raised to the 70 mph limit by the end of April, with another 1,000 miles to follow in May. WYDOT’s 511 Travel Information Service map at www.wyoroad.info will be updated to show each highway increased to the 70 mph limit when the signing is completed on that section. Until the new signs are up, the existing posted speed limit remains in effect. “Drivers are reminded to obey whatever speed limit is posted on the highway section they are traveling,” Wyoming Highway Patrol Col. Kebin Haller said.
