Wolf pack spotted close to Lander

Last weekend the Wyoming Game & Fish Department and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service received reports of a wolf pack being spotted in the Squaw Creek area. "We know there's wolves around, and we got those pictures too," G&F Large Carnivore Specialist Brian DeBolt told County 10. The local man who reportedly shot the photos did not return our request for comment or a look at the images. DeBolt noted that wolves are under federal management and that G&F is not actively monitoring wolves. He said the wolf pack spotted was likely in the area preying on deer and elk. There have not been any reports of conflicts with humans yet. DeBolt was unsure exactly where the sighting occurred or how many wolves were in the pack. According to reports, there would only be concern about the wolves if they began to take up residence in populated areas. While sightings this far south are rare, G&F Lander Region Spokeswoman Rene Schell said it isn't unheard of. There have been wolf sightings in the North Second and South Pass areas. public domain image #county10 #news
