Books and Breakfast for Riverton boys and girls

The 9th annual Books and Breakfast put on by the Riverton’s Kiwanis club was their most highly attended. Hundreds of families filled St. Margaret’s Gym Saturday morning to enjoy good food, free books, activities and a visit from Clifford the Big Red Dog. There were many smiling faces there not only from the kids but the volunteers as well. Approximately 20 Kiwanis members helped along with Rendezvous students, Key Club high school students, CWC students and many sponsors. Last year they feed 500 people including an estimated 300 children. However, by 9:00 am all the prepared gift bags at the registration table were given out and there was still an hour to go. Each child was able to choose one brand new book and encouraged to pick as many of the used books as they wanted. Educational tables were set up along the perimeter of the gym with activities for the children to participate in. Families received free crayons, coloring books, pencils and stickers at each table as well as education material including injury prevention, word recognition, nutrition and much more. It was a great event not only for families but the community as a whole.
