Felon tried to swim to his freedom

(Riverton, Wyo.) - A 40-year-old Ethete man tried to swim to his freedom after contacted by law enforcement officers at the Rendezvous Ponds Friday at 11:44 a.m. A deputy noticed a suspicious vehicle parked there and investigated and found Collie Warren, who gave the deputy a false identity. After his real identity was learned, Collie was told he was going to be arrested on two outstanding warrants, one from Fremont and the other from Natrona counties. He bolted, jumped into a pond and swam to island in the middle of the pond. According to a sheriff's report, after about 20 minutes sitting on the island, and nowhere else to go, he swam back to the deputy and was placed under arrest. A subsequent search of his vehicle yielded a rifle, and he was charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He was additionally charged with Interference for giving a false name, as well as Driving Under Suspension and Driving without an ignition Interlock Device. #county10 #news
