Man assaulted with whiskey bottle in hotel, hospitalized

(Riverton, Wyo.) - An Aurora, CO, man was arrested for aggravated assault and battery after he allegedly pummeled two victims with a heavy whiskey bottle in a hallway at the Riverton Holiday Inn. According to a news release from Undersheriff Ryan Lee released this morning, Riverton Police Department asked that the Sheriff's Office respond to and investigate this incident as they were temporarily unavailable. The suspect, Frank Lopez, 28, is accused of striking two separate victims. "Lopez is alleged to have been chasing one victim down the hallway of the motel while brandishing a whiskey bottle. The second victim attempted to intervene at which time Lopez is alleged to have violently attacked the man striking him multiple times in the head and once under the chin with the heavy glass whiskey bottle. Lopez is also alleged to have struck the first victim at least one time under the chin with the whiskey bottle as well," according to Lee. It is unknown exactly what caused the altercation to start with, however several other hotel guests witnessed the incident, the Undersheriff said in the release. The victim was taken to Sagewest Riverton for treatment, his condition is unknown as of this morning. Lopez was jailed on one count of Aggravated Assault alleging he attempted to cause or caused serious bodily injury to another. #county10 #news
