Here comes the Rain: Flood Watch Posted for Saturday-Sunday

(Riverton, Wyo.) - A flood watch has been issued for small streams and creeks along the Lander Foothills and across the southern end of the Wind River Basin including Riverton and Shoshoni. The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Riverton said rainfall will start across the southern half of the Wind River Basin and along the Lander Foothills by Friday afternoon and increase in intensity by Saturday morning. Rainfall, heavy at times, will continue through Saturday night with total rainfall amounts through Sunday morning forecast to be in the range of 2-3 inches, the NWS reported. Isolated areas around the Lander Foothills could range up to 4 inches. Snow levels with this storm will start out at 9,000 to 9,500 feet Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon, dropping to around 8,000 feet by Sunday morning, according to the NWS. Rainfall runoff and snowmelt runoff will combine forces Saturday morning to cause rapid rises o small streams and creeks along the Lander Foothills as well as along the lower elevations of the Wind River Basin.
