(Shawna Pickinpaugh / Pitchengine Communities) * (Lander, Wyo.) - Wyoming is the only state in the United States that holds a High School State Art Symposium and student from Lander Valley High School did very well at the event. One of the LVHS art instructors, Shawna Pickinpaugh, said the 47th annual event "was an amazing epicenter of art with over 4500 entries from creative high school art students." Pickinpaugh provided a list of highlights for Lander's students: • Lander Valley High School had 106 entries of pottery, sculpture, drawing, painting and digital art. We received 47 ribbons. There were over 4500 entries with only 25% of the show being awarded ribbons. • We had two students apply for the Wyoming Secondary Art Educators Art Scholarships this year, Annika Poitras and Kami Deromedi. This is a state wide scholarship and very competitive. Both girls made the first round which narrowed the list to 12 student interviews. Annika Poitras received two scholarships one from WSAE (Wyoming Secondary Art Educators) and one from University of Wyoming. This is a huge accomplishment as she was running against the best art students in the state. Annika also had an etching selected for the Congressional Art Award which will be displayed at the Capital Building for the summer. This is Annika’s second year in a row to have a piece selected out of over 4500 entries. [image: Inline image 1] *Annika Poitras with her Congressional Award winning etching. The First Lady selected a few works from the show to be displayed at the Governor’s Mansion this summer as well as Cheyenne Frontier Days. • Braeden Meyer's Owl was selected as the 2-D Student Choice Award and three of our students Braeden Meyer, Annika Poitras and Taury Carr won first place as a team in the Pictionary Competition. #county10 #news
