Thirty-five years later....

Thirty-five years later....

(Riverton, Wyo.) - This past week when the Babe Ruth Baseball Season began in Riverton, Sean Petersen was the umpire behind the plate and Lee Martinez was on the basepaths. "Thirty-Five years ago I was a catcher on a Babe Ruth Team and Lee was right behind me calling the game," said Petersen. "I was thinking, when is this guy going to call a strike!" And then this week, I was behind the plate and Lee is still there, this time on the basepaths." Petersen said Martinez has been a mentor and an inspiration. "He has given nearly 50 years to youth baseball in Riverton and it was a huge honor to be umping with him." Ironically, both men now serve on the Riverton City Council as well as on the baseball field. For the veteran Martinez, now the Council President, his is a return to the council and Petersen is the newby, just like it was 35 years ago. NOTE: Riverton's Little League Baseball season begins this Monday night at the Smith Road complex. "We are in need of volunteers still," Petersen said.
