Full-scale public health exercise planned in Lander tomorrow

Starting at 2 p.m. tomorrow, May 24, Fremont County Public Health, Northern Arapaho Tribal Health and Eastern Shoshone Tribal health are holding a full-scale functional exercise in the Lander Valley High School parking lot. The public is highly encouraged to participate. The purpose of this exercise is to test a timely response during a public health emergency involving SNS assets being deployed to the community. Basically, Public Health will be distributing medications due to a fictitious biological exposure to a large amount of people in a short amount of time. This exercise will be carried out according to the guidelines utilizing the Strategic National Stockpile Plan (SNS), accordance with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) contract deliverables for Emergency Preparedness. The exercise will be utilizing a drive through Point of Distribution (POD) for roughly 1,000 affected persons. Fremont County Public Health has been requested to dispose a 10 day fictitious prophylactic medication to anyone who attended the simulated “Biovalley Community Fund Raiser.” Public Health will be asking the general public, to drive through our POD, be screened, and receive the fictitious prophylactic medication. Entrance into the exercise will be through Tiger Drive with an exit out on Baldwin Creek. *(The exercise will be similar to one held a couple years ago using real flu vaccinations. However, no injections will be given this time. Photo h/t Western Family Care)* #county10 #news
