RHS's 'Mary Poppins' delights audiences

Riverton High School students, with the help of a few middle school and elementary students, dazzled audiences last weekend with their beautiful performance of Mary Poppins. During school hours Thursday and Friday they performed their dress rehearsals in front of other students in the district who were bussed to CWC to watch. They debuted Friday night to the public with two more performances on Saturday. The actors, whose ages range from 9 – 18 years old, have been practicing for the past 8 weeks until nearly 9:30 p.m. every night in preparation for the weekend of performances. Those able to attend more than one show were entertained by the actresses’ different portrayals of the two characters. According to Melinda McLaughlin, who is the mother of three of the performers, the director Annette Thornton is a genius. She says she is a phenomenal director and one of the top high school directors in the nation. We truly are lucky to have her in our community. [image: IMG_2745.JPG] Of course, a performance of this size, took more than just an amazing director. Jon Marquez, the musical director played a vital role with all beautiful songs. Parents and volunteers put in hours of preparation to put on a successful and entertaining show. Saturday night’s performance was bittersweet for several of the actors who were graduating the next day. Kyle Phister who played the part of Bert is one of those seniors. Kyle will be leaving next month to serve a two year mission for the LDS church in Riverside, Calif. [image: IMG_2794.JPG] Kierra Muehler who played the part of Mary and Winifred, also graduated Sunday. Kierra is staying local and attending CWC as a theater major. Avery Hatchfield who played Mr. Banks, Jeri Dege who played the part of the Bird Woman and Gabe Kreitzer who played Northbrook were also among the graduates Sunday.
