LVHS senior Mark McConnell to wrestle Division I at University of Wyoming

(Lander, Wyo.) - This afternoon, Lander Valley High School Senior, Mark McConnell, in the presence of his family and coaches, signed his official letter of intent to wrestle at the University of Wyoming this fall. "I'm feeling really good," Mark said. "It's been a dream of mine to be a Division I athlete my whole life, so I'm pretty excited for it to become a reality." He added, "I'm ready for this next chapter in my life. It's a big step, but I'll be supported by my family and so many people across the state since I'm staying in Wyoming." Mike and Anjie both went to UW and they said it's very exciting for him to carry on that legacy. Kiley jokingly took the credit for Mark's wrestling talent and passion. "He used to beat me up all the time when we were little," she said. "But I always fought back." LVHS Head Coach Richard Atnip and Assistant Coach Casey Smith are also very proud. "It's pretty rare to have a Wyoming kid go on to the Division 1 level," said Smith. "Mark is one of the hardest working kids we know." Mark has been wrestling since he was about five years old. He told County 10 he loves it because of the mentality - "you work until you've got nothing left and never give up. Wrestling teaches you a lot about life." Mark will be busy getting ready for college and the wrestling season this summer. In the meantime, he's on the LVHS Boys Soccer team and they're off to State this weekend in Sheridan. Congrats and best of luck this weekend, and into college, Mark! [image: 0 (6).jpg] *Feature photo: Mark McConnell signing letter of intent to wrestle at UW. To his right is his mom, Anjie McConnell.
