Fallen veterans honored at Lander Memorial Day ceremony

Today, the Lander area veterans organizations, VFW, American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary held a beautiful ceremony in wonderful weather for Memorial Day at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mayor Del McOmie proclaimed the day as John Sturgeon Day, in honor of a local veteran who has faithfully served his country and community over the decades. Sturgeon, a 20-year member of the U.S. Navy, was unable to attend himself due to unforeseen health issues, but his family (below) accepted the proclamation on his behalf. The ceremony concluded with a 21-gun salute and performances of Taps and Amazing Grace. [image: IMG_1379.JPG][image: IMG_1378.JPG] #county10 #news
