Memorial Day was John Sturgeon Day in Lander

(Lander, Wyo.) - A local veteran was honored by the City of Lander on Monday for his service to the country and to the community. Memorial Day was established on the 30th day of May 1868. It was designated for the purpose of strewing flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country and those veterans who have dropped their burdens by the wayside and gone on to their eternal rest. Memorial Day is an opportunity for all of the citizens of our community to remember and honor their service. It is also an opportunity to recognize those who have served their country and who returned to their communities and continued to serve.
