Man accused of murdering CWC nursing student faces second charge

In May, federal prosecutors added a second charge to the case against Koby Dean Johnson. Last November, Johnson was charged with the first degree murder of Rachael Noel Johnson. Prosecutors have maintained the first degree murder charge, which carries with it a mandatory life imprisonment penalty. But last month, a second charge: Causing Death Through Use of a Firearm. It comes with a possible penalty of up to life imprisonment, which would be consecutive to any other sentence imposed. According to court documents, Johnson allegedly murdered his wife in front of their children. One of the children said their mother was holding a gun, and one of the older kids said they could distinguish between the sounds of their mother's and father's weapons, and they said they only heard their father's.
