RPD: Please don't dig in city parks

For a lot of locals who like to metal detect, parks around Riverton are a popular place to try and find something cool. However, city parks are beginning to get some damage due to these hobbyists. Riverton Police's Todd Byerly reported that the Parks Department has noticed an increasing amount of holes dug in local parks by people metal detecting. In and of itself, there is nothing illegal about metal detecting in the parks, but causing damage to the lawn and leaving holes dug up and not refilled could land the digger a fine. There is a city ordinance against causing damage at parks. While this has not been a major problem in the past, the Parks department has been dealing with more and more holes. Byerly and the Parks crew are asking park users, including metal detectors, to be respectful of the park. #county10 #news
