Driver in Saturday's fatal crash was ticketed for speeding in Lander hours before

The Cheyenne woman was killed in Saturday's fatal Wind River Canyon crash was stopped earlier that morning in Lander as being a potential drunken driver. According to Lander Police Department reports, Jamie Winters, 41, of Cheyenne, was contacted by police shortly after 7 a.m. when police were called about a car that was backing out of a location on Sand Hills Road and almost another subject. The caller reported the incident as a possible drunken driver. Police administered a breath test, and it showed Winters had a .002 blood alcohol percentage. She was cited for speeding and an expired registration. About five and a half hours later, Winters vehicle was involved in a collision on the north end of Wind River Canyon when it reported crossed the center line and collided with an on-coming vehicle. The Wyoming Highway Patrol has reported that alcohol use by Winters is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.
