Local man denies guilt in May knife slashing

A Riverton man accused of a violent knife attack last month formally entered a plea to the charge against him last week. Gary Jara, 46, pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault. His trial has been tentatively set for late September. Judge Norman E. Young declined to lower Jara's $50,000 cash bond requirement. According to police reports, Jara allegedly repeatedly slashed another man with a seven-inch long knife during an argument over a woman on May 18. The victim, according to the report, had multiple lacerations to his left forearm about 4 inches in length each, two more large lacerations to the right side of his face between 4 and 6 inches long, including one from his right eye to his ear and the other on his cheek. Another large laceration was located on the top left side of the victim's head, which removed part of his scalp. The victim also showed multiple lacerations to his right hand and fingers, apparently defensive wounds. #county10 #news
