Good Samaritan credited with saving Riverton house from fire

Shortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday, Riverton Firefighters were called to the 600 block of E. Jefferson for a report of a possible house fire. And today, Fire Chief Scott Walters credited a passerby with keeping the fire from being much worse. Walters said the owners of the single-story home were on vacation, and while the care-taker was at the home a child who was with her told her that one side of the home was on fire. Walters went on to say that a man who happened to be passing by grabbed a garden hose and kept the fire under control until firefighters arrived. Walters said that the fire appeared to have begun on the ground somehow and began burning through the house's siding. The fire qas quickly put out and only minor damage sustained to the exterior of the home. He went on to say that had the man, who he has been unable to identify, not stopped to help, the outcome of the fire could have been much different. #county10 #news
