In an email to staff this morning, Central Wyoming College President Cristobal Valdez announced that he has accepted a position at Richland Community College in Illinois, effective Aug. 1. His last day at CWC will be July 22. "These past two years have been marked by change, challenging decisions, financial challenges and, at times, unrest and anxiety for some," he wrote in his email. "This time has also seen improvements in how we assess our work, how we plan and how we process. I am heartened to see higher levels of participation in governance and decision-making and I am proud to see the level of leadership - across the College - that is committed to student learning and student success." The news about his possible departure began when it was learned that Valdez was a finalist for the presidency of a college in Kentucky
. In his email, Valdez said that
he has kept the Board and Cabinet informed of his intentions for some time.
"I am confident that, together, we have moved the College in the right
direction and with renewed knowledge and interest in the completion agenda,
CWC will serve students at even higher levels and will realize greater
outcomes in retention, completion and students meeting their stated goals
and realizing their dreams," he concluded.
The presidency replacement process is a lengthy one and will likely begin
in the coming weeks. More information will be shared about that process as
it becomes available.
