11-year-old Riverton boy attacked by deer

(Riverton, Wyo.) - An 11-year-old boy had a scary encounter on Thursday evening in Riverton. As he was swinging on his caregiver's swing set he was attacked by a deer. The boy's mom spoke with County 10 and said her son was swinging in the backyard as normal and she believes the deer was protecting her young; however, she said her son didn't see the baby deer. He suffered bruises, scrapes and a black eye but most of the injuries were focused on his head and chest. Her son started screaming, the deer backed down and he was able to get away. The boy's mother wants to remind the community that "it's important to be aware of your surroundings because you never know if the deer in your presence have babies near by. We truly think she was protecting her baby but we didn't even know she was in the vicinity of where we's totally a freak thing." County 10 reached out to Game and Fish but have not heard back.
