BLM hosts Johnny Behind the Rocks Mineral Withdrawal public meeting

The Bureau of Land Management Lander Field Office will host a public meeting on *July 25, 2016*, at the Fremont County Library in Lander to discuss the proposed Johnny Behind the Rocks mineral withdrawal. The meeting will be held from *4:30–5:30 p.m. in the Carnegie Room*. The BLM proposes to withdraw 4,964.75 acres of public land from location and entry under the United States mining laws, but not from leasing under the mineral or geothermal leasing laws, for a period of 20 years. The withdraw is subject to valid existing rights. The Johnny Behind the Rocks Recreation Zone in Fremont County is popular among mountain bikers, horseback riders and hikers. The proposed withdrawal *is needed to protect the cultural and recreational resources of Johnny Behind the Rocks.* Sarah Beckwith of the BLM says, "This withdrawal would be good news for the hikers and bikers who enjoy JBR because it means that the recreational resources will be protected from future mining exploration and development into the future." Include "JBR Mineral Withdrawal" in the subject line. Comments may also be mailed to BLM-Lander Field Office, ATTN: Kristin Yannone, 1335 Main Street, Lander, WY, 82520. The Fremont County Library is located at 220 North 2nd Street in Lander. For more information, contact Kristin Yannone, BLM planning and environmental coordinator, at 307-332-8400.
