(Lander, Wyo.) - Yesterday afternoon around 3:00 p.m. firefighters were called to a grass fire on 97 Deadman Gulch Road off of Highway 789. In total the fire burned approximately 9 acres. Lander Rural Fire Department, Hudson Battalion 10, Lander City Fire and Fort Washakie Battalion 12 were on scene and had the fire contained within 30 minutes. Johnson said the cause of the fire was determined to be an individual's burn pit that he had burned three weeks ago. Johnson said yesterday's heat and wind conditions caused the fire to pick back up. Johnson reminds folks to take extreme caution if you need to burn. Things a extremely dry and the winds can pick up quickly. The National Weather Service in Riverton
issued a Red Flag Warning Monday which expired last night at 8:00 p.m.
However, a new Fire Weather Watch is in effect for Wednesday afternoon and
evening. More information to follow.
