School board approves name and colors for new high school; Mascot to be determined

(Gillette, Wyo.) - The Campbell County School District board of trustees voted last night to approve the name of *Thunder Basin High School* for the new high school when it opens in fall 2017. The Campbell County High School – South Campus is currently undergoing renovations to add facilities required for that building to be a stand-alone high school. *Electric blue and silver* were the colors chosen to represent the new high school. At the board’s request, surveys were conducted among students and residents to determine preference for the name, colors and mascot. Elementary students in fifth and sixth grades, plus students at Sage Valley Jr. High and Twin Spruce Jr. High, and Campbell County High School were involved in the process. First, students were asked to make recommendations in each category. Those recommendations were voted on by those same students, under the guidance of school student councils. The community was also given an opportunity to vote for their favorite name, colors and mascot. The school board was pleased that over 2,000 votes were cast in the final survey. The choice of mascot was not as clear-cut as the choices of name and color combination. The board asked administration to conduct one additional survey among just the students to determine preference for the mascot. There will only be two choices on the survey: *Bolts and Grizzlies.* The survey has begun and will run through December 22. It can be accessed here . Only students 5th grade to 12th grade can vote. Those survey results will be presented to the board in January. *Feature photo: 2015/2016 Campbell County High School staff via Campbell County School District facebook page / Pitchengine Communities* #county17 #news
