Local Organizations React To Arch Coal Bankruptcy

(Gillette, Wyo.) - Bob LeResche issued the following statement on behalf of the Powder River Basin Resource Council and the Western Organization of Resource Councils in reaction to the bankruptcy filing today by Arch Coal. Bob chairs the Powder River Basin Resource Council, an organization that works to ensure responsible development of Wyoming’s mineral resources. He is Past Chair of the Western Organization of Resource Councils, a 7-state network of grassroots community organizations working to shape energy policy and strengthen communities. Bob lives and farms with his wife in Clearmont, Wyoming. According to Bob LeResche, ”Regulators must not allow Arch to shirk its responsibility to have adequate bonds for coal mine cleanup. Bankruptcy should not be used as a haven for the company to escape its obligations. With over ninety square miles of coal mines in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin, Arch has a $458 million reclamation liability. State and federal taxpayers must not be left with the bill.” *Photo credit: Coal mining operation in Wyoming. Image by Jim Parkin/ * #news #county17
