Thunder Basin High School Mascot Picked

(Gillette, Wyo.) At the school board meeting on Tuesday night, the trustees voted on a mascot for the new Thunder Basin High School, which is set to open the fall of 2017. The result is the Thunder Basin Bolts. The Board of Trustees requested a survey to determine the mascot from the two finalists which were the Grizzlies and the Bolts. Students in grades 5th through 12th grade chose the Bolts by 58% and Grizzlies received 42% of the vote. The board had previously accepted the results of student and community surveys to select the name of the new school as Thunder Basin High School and the colors for the school as electric blue and silver. At the meeting, Thayne Brown, a sophomore at South Campus, presented a petition signed by 313 students to change the school colors from electric blue and silver to maroon and silver. Sophomore class President Tom Lubnau III spoke in favor of the process of the selection of the school name, colors, and mascot.
