Wyoming Roller Derby Community Comes Together for Fellow Skater

(Casper, Wyo.) Jessica Bigelow was on vacation with her husband and young daughter when she suffered a series of strokes. Jessica skates as Breath Taker for Casper's competitive roller derby team, A'Salt Creek Roller Girls, and will have a lengthy recovery and need for medical care beyond the substantial bills she's already stacked up. That's why her team put on a doubleheader this weekend to benefit the Bigelows, who is part of the roller derby family in Wyoming. Four teams were formed from skaters all around the state, plus others from Montana, South Dakota, and Colorado who have all met or skated with Jessica and wanted to help. Crash Landen and Penalty Troll from the Coal Miner's Daughters reffed for the first bout, the Incredibles vs. the Justice League. Everyone was there to help raise donations for the Bigelows. Lylie Weeks, president of Gillette's Coal Miner's Daughters, explains "I don't know Breath Taker well. But I don't know if there is a nicer person than her. Her smile is contagious." The Incredibles won the first bout 120 to 95 over the Justice League, and the Avengers won 190 to 89, Green Lanterns. All in all, A'Salt Creek ended up taking in over $2000 in donations during a free event to benefit their teammate.
