GPD Sweep Results In Two Drug Arrests

(Gillette, Wyo.) Gillette police K9 units were very busy Monday as they performed routine checks of local hotels and apartments. Starting around 8 o'clock last night, the dogs sniffed the parking lot of Motel 6. As they moved next door to the Budget Inn Express, they searched around fifteen vehicles, as well as in the hotel. That's where the dogs detected the possible presence of drugs in a room. Hillary Stroud, 22, of Annandale Minnesota, was allegedly found in possession of .25 grams of meth, and marijuana. She was arrested. A 23 year old man in the room was issued a citation for possession. Down the road at the Comfort Inn, all three floors of the hotel and fifteen vehicles were searched by K9 units. They indicated the possibility of drugs in one of the rooms. Officers detected the odor of burnt marijuana inside, but the room was unoccupied. By 12:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, police had moved their search further south, to the apartments on Dogwood Ave, after receiving reports of marijuana use. K9 units indicated the presence of drugs in the apartment of a 25 year old woman. A search warrant was issued, and the subsequent search revealed 9 ounces of marijuana in the residence. There was also a 3 year old child living in the apartment, who sleeps in the room where the pot was found. The child was taken in to the care of the Department of Family Services as her mother was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance, with intent to distribute. Her name is being withheld pending an investigation. #county17 #news
