Campbell County High School shows Camel Pride in an important way

(Gillette, Wyo.) When the Sheridan High School business class heard about an upcoming basketball game with their rivals here in Gillette, they thought up a unique way to combine two ideas in to one. The students took a marketing project and turned it in to an awareness campaign for suicide prevention. But they weren't sure they could get the funding for it, and called the marketing teacher at Campbell County High School for help. That's when local school guidance counselors and the student council got involved. "Camel Strong" beanies, with a yellow suicide awareness ribbon embroidered on the front, have gone from idea to reality. The Campbell County Suicide Prevention Coalition helped fund the creation of hats for students to wear all this week, in advance of the Sheridan vs Gillette game this Friday. Athletic Director Cliff Hill even bought enough of the hats for everyone on the basketball team to wear them at the game. The Sheridan hats say "Bronc Strong" in a blue font, but otherwise all the hats are the same. Same gray color, same yellow ribbon. It's a show of solidarity in trying to help the prevention of suicides in the community. The marketing classes have been working on this project for over a month, anticipating they'd have it ready for the Sheridan game on the 5th. But weather delays and problems with shipping have put the project off until now. Sadly, the timing includes the recent suicide of a Campbell County High School student. So it's important now more than ever to show that united front. The hats are $5 each and can be purchased at the business offices at either North or South Campus. Everyone is encouraged to wear their hat during the game on Friday. The games start at 3:00 pm. #county17 #news
