Wyoming Coroner facing 15 criminal charges related to Medicaid fraud

Niobrara County Coroner Lisa Mellott is facing 15 felony charges following a Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation case. Mellott is charged with 11 counts of Medicaid Fraud and four counts of Forgery in connection to alleged misconduct dating back to 2011. Each crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and/or $10,000 in fines. According to the affidavit filed in the case, Mellott was the owner of Home Health Agency in Lusk. The investigation began when Mellott indicated to a DCI invesigator that she billed Medicaid for services that she did not provide; the information was revealed during an investigating into an unrelated manner. Court documents state that investigators spoke with several of Mellott's clients, for whom services were being charged, but they all said Mellott rarely performed monthly case management visits. During a search of Mellott's business's files, investigators reportedly found client forms that had their signatures cut out from prior documents pasted onto the signature lines in an apparent attempt to make it appear as if documents were signed when copies were submitted to for Medicaid reimbursement. In total, Mellott is accused of having fraudulently obtained $51,900.12 from Medicaid. #county17 #shortgo #county10 #news
