Snow and Ice Overnight Causes Several Early Morning Accidents

(Gillette, Wyo.) Tuesday, most Campbell County residents awoke to find the cars covered with snow and ice on the ground. This made it difficult for early-morning travelers to keep their cars on the road. The Campbell County Sheriff's Office reported two one-vehicle accidents with no injuries, as people kept sliding off the road before 8 a.m. They assisted Wyoming Highway Patrol with a rollover on I-90. CCFD also was on scene, as the car was blocking the inside westbound lane. The driver was able to get himself out of the car, but had injuries and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Within city limits, Gillette Police reported multiple car accidents involving minors. A 17 year old on her way to school lost control of her Nissan Frontier. The car went over the curb on South Douglas Highway, rolled over once, and went in to the ditch, landing on its wheels. EMS responded as the girl complained of her head hurting. Her mother arrived on scene and picked the girl up, as the car was towed. On North Campus, a 17 year old girl driving a Pontiac was unable to stop at the entrance to the east parking lot, and slid in to the back of another 17 year old driver in a Chevy. There was reportedly $500 in damage to the cars. Later Tuesday, at around 2 p.m., officers were back at North Campus for the same two girls. The driver of the Pontiac claims she is being harassed by the girl she hit that morning. Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. officers responded to Skyline Drive and Lakeway Road after a woman rolled her Toyota SUV. The 25 year old mother had her 6 and 7 year old and 6 month old in the car with her. She was taken to the hospital, reporting back pain. Officers cited her with not having proper auto insurance, driving under suspension, and improper child restraint. There was $1000 in damage to her vehicle. The children are reportedly all okay. CCFD responded to five accidents between 5 and 9 a.m on Tuesday. There were two accidents along Garner Lake Road -- a two vehicle crash at 6 a.m. near Northern Drive, and another one car rollover at 7:30 near Harry Street. No injuries were reported at either scene. At 5:28 a.m. firefighters had to extricate a driver from his car after it rolled over on Highway 59. He was taken to Campbell County Hopsital to be treated for his injuries. *Photo h/t Jan Mallander // Pitchengine Communities* #county17 #news
