Tax Season is fast approaching, and so are the scammers

(Gillette, Wyo.) We have a new scam alert for you, courtesy of First National Bank of Gillette. It's tax season, and currently emails have been going around titled "Thanks for Choosing TurboTax" or "Turbo Tax Update - Your Federal Return was Accepted". These are actually a massive phishing scam. ("Phishing" refers to criminal activity that attempts to fraudulently obtain sensitive information.) [image: TurboTaxPhish103212016.jpg] h/t Intuit The email either tries to make you click on a link to "opt out" of sharing your personal information with others, or to click a link to see your supposed return. The email is a scam, if you click on the link, it will download key logger malware which will steal your identity from your computer or your cell phone. Remember the following things: - Always have your Internet Security Software updated. - Always keep your software up to date with the latest patches, computer and phone. - Never click on links in emails or text messages unless you are sure it is legit. If you have actually filed your return with Turbo Tax, type their site in manually and go to it directly. Do not click any links in your email. #county17 #news
