Local Honor Society Chapter Wins International Award

(Gillette, Wyo.) The Gillette College chapter of Alpha Nu Psi was given the Five Star Award, the international Phi Theta Kappa honor society’s highest rating, at awards given out last weekend. Two students from the College were recognized in particular. Alex Brigham was named a 2015 Distinguished Chapter Officer, while Melissa Shelby was named a 2015 Distinguished Chapter Member. In addition, faculty advisor Beth Walker, Gillette College Director of Advising, Testing, and Career Services, was named the 2015 Distinguished Advisor for the whole of the Colorado/Wyoming region, which encompasses 32 chapters. “I’m very proud of Alex and Melissa for how much they have given us this past year,” Walker said. “I am also deeply honored to join the ranks of past distinguished advisors. It is truly great company to be in.” Phi Theta Kappa’s purpose is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, PTK provides opportunity for the development of leadership and service for an intellectual climate, for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence. *Feature Photo: Chapter Officer Alex Brigham (left) and Chapter Member Melissa Shelby (right)* #county17 #news
