(Wright, Wyo.) Thursday afternoon M&K Oil owner Jim McLeland was checking on an oil well alone, when there was some sort of accident involving a fire. At press time on Friday neither the Campbell County Sheriff nor the Campbell County Fire Chief were aware of the nature of the incident, only that someone had been lifeflighted with burns to his torso. This afternoon Bill Sims with the volunteer fire department in Wright confirmed there was a fire, but he is not sure of the cause, and it is being investigated by a third party. According to a family journal on the website Caring Bridge
, Jim is at Western
States Burn Center at Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley,
Colorado. He has burns to over half his body and due to swelling has gained
over 100 pounds in four days. This has complicated surgery to repair skin
damage and help his lungs. A surgery scheduled for this morning was
postponed until this afternoon.
According to family posts on Caring Bridge, he is doing well after having
donor pig skin applied to his chest, where the damaged tissue was removed.
If all goes well, he'll be back in surgery on Friday to have the same thing
done to his back.
According to his daughter in law, Kara McLeland, "The doctor said that
although we are certainly not out of the woods yet, she is hopeful the
removal of this toxic skin will improve Jim's condition."
She went on to thank everyone for their continued support.
