(Gillette, Wyo.) In 2013, Google Earth collaborated with NASA's Landsat project to compile satellite images going all the way back to the 1970s. They released a series of animations from the effort on their blog
one of which includes a time lapse of mining efforts in Campbell County
from 1984 through 2011.
From outer space, you can see how the mine progresses outward, with the
back fill and the reclamation process happening right behind it. It's a
stunning display of the work that is done in Wyoming to restore our
landscape and leave it better than how we found it.
