(Gillette, Wyo.) The timing yesterday was not the best, considering what was happening around the county with the coal industry. But when the Campbell County Commissioners filed a letter to terminate the Joint Fire Powers Board
last night, it was
with the intent that they wouldn't have to actually do that.
"This just extends the negotiations period," explained County Spokesperson
Ivy McGowan-Castleberry. "The hope is that by June 30th they can find terms
that are fair and equitable to all of the entities."
Even if an agreement is not reached by the June 30th deadline, fire
response services will continue as normal through 2017, until the contract
ends. If a new agreement isn't renewed by the end of January 2018, the City
of Gillette, Town of Wright, and Campbell County will each be responsible
for providing their own fire department services.
