Local and State Governments Working to Help Gillette

(Gillette, Wyo.) The city of Gillette and town of Wright released a statement this afternoon expressing their condolences to those laid off from their jobs in the local coal mines, as well as to all the oil field workers who have seen their jobs vanish over the last several months. "This is a difficult time for Wyoming and Campbell County, yet we are confident that together we will weather this storm. These individuals have worked hard for their families, their communities and their state; now we are prepared to work hard for them." The statement went on to assure residents that Mayors, Commissioners and City and Town Councils are proactively seeking solutions. They are focused on developing a diversified local, regional and statewide economy, including the development of manufacturing. In addition to searching for ways to stabilize the local economy, they state that they will also "continue to passionately fight for the reduction and elimination of federal regulations currently harming our coal mines and oil and gas industries." Governor Mead directed the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, the Wyoming Department of Insurance, the Wyoming Community College Commission and the Wyoming Business Council to open temporary community resource centers in Casper, Gillette and Douglas for those affected by energy related layoffs. The temporary resource centers will provide help and information on unemployment insurance, job opportunities, job training, health insurance and counseling services. They will be staffed with experts able to assist individuals until 7 p.m. tonight, April 1. They'll be open Saturday, April 2, at 10 a.m., as well as Monday, April 4, and possibly longer depending on demand. CASPER – DWS Casper Workforce Center (851 Werner Court #120).
