Something shiny may catch your eye downtown this month

(Gillette, Wyo.) If you've driven Gillette Ave this week, you might have seen a garden of pinwheels dressing up the courthouse lawn (if they haven't been blown away by the high winds yet!) Pinwheels for Prevention is a national organization that seeks to remind people of the importance of a healthy childhood. April is Child Abuse Prevention month, so all across the state, pinwheels have been popping up to show support of policies that prevent child abuse. The Gillette Abuse Refuge Foundation spent Monday planting 100 blue pinwheels in front of the Campbell County Courthouse. The Campbell County chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse has also planted a pinwheel garden on Boxelder. It's all part of Wyoming's Prevent Child Abuse state initiative, so you'll be seeing them around town all month. "They're to help people keep it in mind that child abuse does happen, but there are people working it to stop it," said Shawna McDonald, GARF's prevention education coordinator. Gillette Abuse Refuge Foundation is in its 35th year this year. They sponsor awareness events throughout the year, including a "Take Back the Night" walk at Gillette College next week, as it is also Sexual Assault Awareness Month. If you would like to honor someone with a pinwheel, you can donate to Prevent Child Abuse America through Crowdrise . #county17 #news
