(Gillette, Wyo.) This week is National Library Week, and the Campbell County Library is having several special events to celebrate. In addition to having a published poet from Laramie in to speak on Thursday night, Brothers Coffee is also hosting a poetry open mic night for the library on Friday at 7 p.m. All week during story times there will be dinosaurs, and the staff are having fun with their "Bookface" competition, which you can vote on right here
One of the biggest features of Library Week, though, is that you can have
your fines forgiven for up to $10 by stopping in from now until Saturday.
Canned good donations for the Council of Community Services are encouraged,
but not necessary in order to have your fees waived. Plus, if you've lost
your library card and need a replacement, this is the week to do it, as all
replacement cards will be issued for free, too.
"This is a great time to come in and explore the library and all we have to
offer," said CCPL's Genevieve Schlekeway. "We're happy people support
libraries in times like this and we're here to help."
If you just want to satisfy a sweet tooth, on Saturday the library is
hosting "Cupcake Wars." Ten local bakers are throwing their chef's hat in
the ring with flavors like chocolate truffle, caramel macchiato and cherry
limeade to try and win one of four awards. A panel of judges will be
selecting the best tasting and best looking entries, and for $5 the public
can taste and choose their favorites, too. That starts at 1:30 p.m.
