Local Students Win Big At State Job Skills Competition

(Gillette, Wyo.) Gillette College had a fantastic showing at the Wyoming SkillsUSA competition this past week in Casper. SkillsUSA, a partnership of students, teachers and industry, is working to ensure America has a skilled workforce. It prepares America's high performance workers and provides quality education experiences for students. Gillette swept the Related Technical Math category, with students Garret Gaskill placing first, Skyler Stitt second, and Caleb Kohman third. The team also saw Kayti Parish win gold in Early Childhood Education. In all, GC won eight individual medals and three team medals. In addition, students Jody Black and Kayti Parish won positions as Wyoming SkillsUSA President and Treasurer, respectively. “We are very proud of what our students have accomplished,” said Jed Jensen, Dean of Technical Career Education. “The SkillsUSA competition shows just how well our students are prepared to take the next step in their careers.” As first-place winners, Parish and Gaskill will have the opportunity to compete in the national SkillsUSA competition, which will be held in Louisville, Kentucky, this coming June 20-25.
