(Gillette, Wyo.) The Rushmore Thunderdome in Rapid City has made it to the finalist round in Kraft's "Hockeyville" contest. Kraft is giving $150,000 for rink updates to the arena with the most votes. South Dakota is up against Marquette, Michigan's Lakeview Arena for the win. The Rushmore Thunderdome started as a backyard rink, until determined parents built the current facility themselves in 1995. Gillette's Wild hockey league is asking fans across Northeast Wyoming to throw their vote in for Rapid City: "The Thunderdome was built on parent and coach volunteer ONLY," the Wild said on their Facebook page
"Though the rink has come a long way, those of you with youth hockey
skaters or know our players that have came to us from South Dakota can tell
you that it definitely needs some work."
