Crook County Sheriff's Office Warns of New Phone Scam

(Wyoming) According the the Sheriff's Office Facebook page : "A Crook County resident has reported that he received a phone call from a person informing him that his electric bill was late and they were dispatching someone to pull the meter. They gave him the option to pay with his credit or debit card to avoid the disconnect. The telephone number had an area code of 956 and comes back to a land line in Texas. This is a common scam around the country. Do not give any information -- especially credit card, financial or personal information -- to anyone over the telephone. Contact the entity that they supposedly represent and confirm whether or not the issue is legitimate. According to the Powder River Energy website, some of these scam calls even have caller ID that appears as 'PRECorp' and they may even answer the telephone as Powder River Energy. They ask that if you receive a call or message of this nature, please notify PRECorp immediately at 1-800-442-3630." #county17 #news
