(Gillette, Wyo.) The suspect in a string of robberies around Gillette in February has been charged formally with three counts of aggravated robbery and one count of felony burglary this week. Robert Carr was arrested Sunday, February 21st after a traffic stop. His car had been seen multiple times in the area of Sweetheart Bakery, which had just reported burglary the week prior. His car, a silver Ford Escape, matched the description of the car seen on video surveillance leaving the scene of a burglary at Hong Kong Restaurant on Valentine's Day. At the time of the traffic stop, Carr had a Campbell County warrant for probation violation and three citations from an unrelated incident that were served to him. While in detention, detectives continued investigating burglaries at Liberty Tax on February 13th, and the reported armed robberies
at Domino's and Central Kwik Shop
on the 16th, as well as a robbery at La Hair Boutique
the 21st. According to court documents, video surveillance, witness
descriptions, footprints and other evidence helped confirm these
A search of the Ford Escape, which is registered to Carr's girlfriend,
allegedly turned up a mask, gloves, and a coat believed to be used in the
robberies. A search of his residence revealed that he had done his taxes
with Liberty Tax just days before allegedly robbing it. While checking the
suspect's cell phone, several internet searches about the robberies were
found on his browser history. Cell phone records also indicated that Carr
was within distance of cell towers near the locations of several robberies
at the time they were being committed.
It is believed through jail correspondence logs that Carr may have
committed these crimes in order to fuel a heroin addiction.
Carr appeared in Circuit Court on these charges on Tuesdays. He is being
held in the Campbell County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
