Stolen car chase leads law enforcement through two counties

(Gillette, Wyo.) State Highway Patrol stopped a man in a 2005 Jeep Cherokee for speeding around 5:30 p.m. Monday afternoon near Rozet. The suspect, 23 year old Nino Montreal from Rapid City, was headed west on I-90 when he was stopped. The Jeep had no license plates, which prompted the Trooper to check its VIN number, revealing the vehicle had been stolen out of South Dakota that same day. Highway Patrol requested backup and Campbell County Sheriff's Deputies arrived, orrdering Montreal to exit the car, with no response. He instead drove away, leading law enforcement on a chase with speeds reaching 110 miles per hour. There were several attempts to spike the Jeep's tires in Campbell County. Gillette Police blocked off Gillette exits and deployed a spike strip at exit 125, which Montreal drove around. Johnson County Sheriff's Deputies deployed a spike strip just south of Buffalo which was successful. The Jeep was able to continue for a mile before one of its tires came loose. Montreal was taken into custody without incident after stopping. He has been charged with possession of stolen property, eluding and speeding. #county17 #news #dally
