Head-On Collision Results In Death of Teenager

(Newcastle, Wyo.) Laura Chord was driving about six miles east of Newcastle on Highway 16 Tuesday night when her car struck another around 6:45 p.m. The Newcastle resident was killed in the crash. Chord was driving her Honda Accord eastbound when it drifted into the oncoming lane of traffic, the Wyoming Highway Patrol reports. A Jeep Grand Cherokee in the westbound lane driven by 34-year-old Newcastle resident Jimmie Josephson, with her husband and two children inside, swerved to avoid the crash, but the two vehicles still collided. Laura was wearing her seat belt but still sustained fatal injuries on scene. The Josephson family was transported to Weston County Health Services in Newcastle for treatment. Their 8 year old sustained injuries to a kidney that required treatment in Rapid City, according to friends. All occupants in their Jeep were properly restrained during the crash. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, May 7th at 10 a.m. at Crouch Auditorium in Newcastle. Sporting events at the school scheduled for Saturday are being rescheduled to accommodate students who wish to attend. *Photo h/t Laura Chord's Blog, Cee My Heart .* #county17 #news
