Local Girl Scout Council Honors Third Grader Following Flu Death

(Billings, MT) Residents in Billings Montana were shocked last month when 9 year old Fiona Westerman died from complications related to an H1N1 influenza infection, known as "swine flu." The Girl Scout Council of Montana and Wyoming honored Fiona today on their Facebook page . Fiona was a member of Brownie Troop 2285 in Billings. "It is always difficult to say goodbye to one of our own," the Council said. "Especially when the Girl Scout is as young as Fiona." Fiona's Brownie troop wanted to do something special to remember her, so they used some of the proceeds from their cookie sales to start a scholarship. This year's funds will send two Girl Scouts to summer camp. "Thank you, Katelin, Elise, Alison, Lauren, Kyrie, Lina, Jessica, Bella, Marley, Lilah, Lilly, Avalon, Arlie, Abby, and Emma. Thank you to your leaders, Heather and Brooke. You are a great example of making the world a better place. We know you will miss Fiona and we thank you for thinking of your sister Girl Scouts to honor her memory." Fiona is remembered as a sensitive and caring girl, who was loyal to her friends and loved her troop, and being a Girl Scout.
