Cloud Peak and Friends of Coal Organize for Rally in Casper

(Gillette, Wyo.) Cloud Peak Energy, the Wyoming Mining Association, and Friends of Coal have put together an event for coal supporters to have their voices heard during an Environmental Impact Scoping meeting. "We are asking community members to consider speaking in support of the coal industry and against changes to the federal coal program," said Cloud Peak's Michelle Butler. The public hearing next Tuesday, May 17th is one of many stops planned in the northwest. The purpose is to gather community opinion for the Department of the Interior as part of the moratorium they put on coal mining earlier this year. There are currently no plans for such a meeting in Gillette. The scoping meeting starts at 10 a.m. at the Casper Events Center, but Powder River Transportation has donated a bus for anyone from Campbell County who wants to make the trip. The ride down on Monday will include a rally at 9 a.m. in front of the Events Center, as well as the meeting. Anyone interested in going can call Michelle Butler at 307.687.6022 to sign up before Friday, May 13th. *Photo h/t Friends of Coal // Pitchengine Communities* #county17 #news
