(Wyoming) May is National Mental Health month, a campaign designed to bring awareness and reduce the stigma of mental illness. Walgreens has teamed up with Mental Health America, a non-profit organization to help those with mental illness, to introduce an online portal that will help Americans with limited access to mental health services. According to the National Institutes of Health, one in five people are affected by mental illness, but less than half receive treatment. Walgreens' Health Answers site
resources in conjunction with experts at Mental Health America to help
connect people to free, scientifically based online screenings for a number
of conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and PTSD.
"I think the big idea here is that we’re promoting that mental health
should be treated just as any physical health condition," said Dr. Harry
Walgreen’s Chief Medical Director.
Not only is Walgreens offering continuing education for its pharmacists,
they have a 24 hour therapist video chatline available on the site, which
can connect users with thousands of state-licensed psychiatrists.
Walgreens and Mental Health America have set a goal to complete 3 million
online screenings by the end of 2017.
