(Washington) MSN is reporting
that investigators for the Treasury Department have identified and arrested
five Miami residents allegedly responsible for $2 million of the $36
million lost due to recent IRS phone scams.
According to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration,
starting in April, scammers started asking for payment in Apple iTunes
cards. Similar scams have been reported to Gillette law enforcement
involving both iTunes cards and moneygrams.
The Federal investigation will continue as the Treasury Department attempts
to find any copycat scammers or co-conspirators to the Miami group.
